PRESS RELEASE RACING ENGINEERING

Another double for Borja Garcia!

Race 1:
Race one of the Valencia round of the Spanish Formula 3 Championship saw Racing Engineering’s Borja Garcia start from pole position. The young Spaniard impressed with a tough but excellent start and out-braked Giao, who was starting second, into the first corner. For the following twelve laps Borja continuously increased the gap between him and Giao. In the thirteenth lap Borja lost part of his exhaust, an incident, which affected not only the rear left tire, but also the rear suspension and wing of the car. Driving a less powerful and unstable car, Borja’s time advantage of more that three seconds melted away with each lap. However, due to his experience and motivation Borja could keep his first place and win the race.
Steven Kane, in Racing Engineering’s car number 2, started from fourth position and lost a position at the start to Dani Martin. Steven, in fifth place during the second lap moved up a position when Alvaro Barba, running in third place spun off the track. Steven finished the race in fourth position.

Maria de Villota started the race from fifteenth position and thanks to a good start was in thirteenth place by the end of the first lap. She gained another position when Alvaro Barba spun in lap two, but he once again overtook her in lap five. In lap fifteen Maria gained another position and finished the race twelfth.

After Borja Garcia’s first victory of the day, the stewards of the race have taken the decision to penalize him with a statement that his start was not according to the rules. Racing Engineering is appealing against this decision.

Race 2:
Borja Garcia had second position on the starting grid behind his championship rival Giao. Borja once again had an amazing start and overtook the Portuguese driver before the first corner. He then produced brilliant lap times and the gap to Giao widened. In lap twelve Borja recorded the fastest lap time of the race with a 1’30.565. With a comfortable gap of 3,414 seconds, Borja won the second race of the weekend.
Steven Kane started from seventeenth position on the starting grid and gained two positions at the start. Pushing constantly and not being affected by drivers such as Risatti and Nuñez spinning in front of him, Steven moved up into ninth place and finally finished in eighth position.
Maria de Villota started in fifteenth place and was all but lucky when and incident with Suarez in lap two forced her to retire from the race.

Alfonso de Orleans, President of Racing Engineering stated “Borja and Steven did a great job this weekend, you can see that they are championship winning drivers. The weekend would have been a perfect one, except that the stewards gave Borja a 25 second penalty for a “forcefull” start of the first race. In my opinion this sanction is much too exaggerated for the accusations levied against Borja. So in the light of that, we are appealing, especially since there was no contact or damage of any kind.
