Racing
Engineerings Borja Garcia left no doubt about who is the fastest
driver in the 2004 Spanish Formula 3 Championship. After his victories
in Estoril and Valencia, Borja once more celebrated a double this
weekend in Jerez. Steven Kane went onto the podium in race one in
third and finished race two in fourth position.
With these excellent results obtained by Racing Engineerings
drivers, the team has been crowned the winner of the 2004 team championship
for the fourth consecutive year!
Race
1:
Borja Garcia celebrated a fabulous start to finish victory in Sundays
first race. The Spaniard started from pole position, dominated the
entire field from the first corner on and was the only driver who
constantly recorded lap times below 136. Borja set the fastest
lap time in the race at 135.281 and finished the race with
a very comfortable time gap of 11.133 seconds to Soucek.
Borja was accompanied on the podium by his teammate Steven Kane.
Steven started the race from the second and lost one position at
the start. During the first laps Aicart, running in fourth, reduced
the gap to Steven, but quickly realized that the Irish driver in
the Racing Engineering outfit was simply faster. Steven was rewarded
with third place for his great performance.
Emilio de Villota started the race from sixteenth position and was
fourteenth on lap ten, when he was too keen on the brakes and spun
off the track.
Race
2:
Borja Garcia started race two from pole position, and once more
the young Spaniard celebrated an unthreatened victory. Again marking
the fastest lap time at 135.858, Borja scored the maximum
points possible at this race meeting in Jerez with his two poles,
two fastest laps and two wins. These results underline Borjas
outstanding form keeping in mind that he was the first to cross
the finish line in the last six races. Borja Garcia is leader of
the 2004 Spanish Formula 3 Championship with one more race meeting
to be held.
Steven Kane, facing one of the toughest race weekends of his career
after the loss of two close friends this week, demonstrated an extremely
professional approach to racing. He started in fourth position and
was visible faster than Hernandez running in third position. Nevertheless
it was not possible for Steven to pass him. However, Steven had
no problem at all to keep his teammates rival for the driver
championship Giao title behind him. Steven finished the race in
fourth position.
Emilio de Villota started from fourteenth position, finished the
sixteen laps race in a convincing tenth position.
I
think Borja has left no doubt about who is the fastest driver in
the 2004 Spanish Formula 3 Championship and this young driver is
surprising us even more with each passing weekend, Alfonso
de Orleáns, Racing Engineerings president, announced
at the end of this race weekend. I would like to thank Borja,
Steven and the entire team for their outstanding effort this weekend
which allowed us to wrap up the team championship with one round
still to go. For Steven it was a very tough weekend and we tried
to help him as much as we could and therefore the results he scored
have a very special value.
