At
the third round of the Spanish Formula 3 Championship held at Racing
Engineerings home track, the Jerez Circuit, the team from
Sanlucar de Barrameda was able to score a lot of points. Borja Garcia,
after achieving his second pole position of the year, won the first
race and finished the second one in second position. Steven Kane
finished the second race third and accompanied his teammate onto
the podium.
Race
1:
Borja Garcia, the young Racing Engineering driver, couldnt
have shown a better performance than during the first race. Starting
from pole position and delivering a good start into the race, no
one was able to overtake Borja during the entire race. Borja also
recorded the fastest lap time of the race at 135.978 in lap
three.
Steven Kane, after suffering from technical problems in Saturdays
first qualifying session, had to start the race from the end of
the starting grid and made a fantastic race. Overtaking seven other
drivers at the start, Steven was already in seventh position in
lap four, the position he finished the race in.
Maria de Villota, the third driver in the Racing Engineering outfit,
had a good start as well overtaking two competitors, but an impact
with Hernandez broke her front wing and kept her from obtaining
a good result in the race. Shortly after Marias race was finished,
when Villa and Mas crashed in front of her and Mas car damaged
the single seater of the Racing Engineering driver so baldy that
she couldnt continue.
Race
2:
A clutch problem of Martin at the start caused Borja Garcia lose
any possibility of overtaking Giao at the start of race two. However,
Borja climbed into second position and put Giao running in first
under a lot of pressure. Right behind Borja, Steven Kane gained
a position at the start and ran in third. In lap three Steven marked
the fastest lap of the race at 136.649. Both Racing Engineering
drivers kept their positions throughout the race and finished on
the podium scoring precious points in the championship standings.
Maria de Villota again was unlucky, when the Argentinean driver
Milla blocked her in the first corner after the start-finish straight
and pushed her off the track while she was overtaking him in the
second lap of the race.
Alfonso
de Orleans, Racing Engineerings president, after the two
races stated, One pole, one win, one second and third place
and additionally the fastest laps in both races show that the team
has worked hard and well. With Borja and Steven now being second
and third in the overall championship, our goal has to be taking
over the lead at the next round. We will continue working hard to
achieve this, but the boys have done a great job so far. On the
other hand I am obviously sorry about what happened to Maria. In
both races she suffered from the mistakes made by others.
