PRESS RELEASE RACING ENGINEERING

Pole position for Borja Garcia at the Circuito de Jerez!

Racing Engineering’s young Spanish driver Borja Garcia has obtained two excellent results in the qualifying sessions of the third round of the Spanish Formula 3 Championship taking place this weekend at the Jerez Circuit. Borja marked the fastest time in the first session with 1.35.492 and will start the second race from third position. Borja’s teammate, Steven Kane will start the second race right behind in fourth position.

Qualifying 1:
From the moment the qualifying session started Borja Garcia set the rhythm. He immediately climbed into first position and with the continuous improvements of his lap times, he guaranteed himself the pole position in the first of Sunday’s races. Borja will lead the field into the first corner with Giao and Kool behind him.
Steven Kane, after his excellent results at the Jarama Circuit, was all but lucky during his first qualifying session of this Jerez meeting. His car stopped in the second corner when a little stone caused the ignition timing ring on the engine to loose a tooth causing the engine to shut down. This bad luck kept Steven from marking any lap times at all and thus Steven has to start the first race from the back of the grid.
Maria de Villota, the only woman in the field to race in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship, will start race one from ninth position.

Qualifying 2:
After the technical problem on Steven Kane’s car was solved and given Borja Garcia’s performance during the first session, expectations were high for the second qualifying session. However, all of Racing Engineering’s drivers commented changed track conditions that resulted in the over-steering of their cars. Borja Garcia and Steven Kane for the first half of the session were occupying the first two positions until after their tire changes, when Martin and Giao moved up into the first and second position. Borja will start the second race from third and his teammate Steven from fourth position on the starting grid.
Maria de Villota, after the session finished, reported a lot of over-steering on her car and will start from an unsatisfying fifteenth position.

After the two qualifying sessions Borja Garcia said, “I am very happy since in Madrid we had a problem with the brake caliper that cost me a lot of points in the overall championship. I am very confident with my engineer, my mechanics and the entire team given the work they have done. You can see the results of their hard work since we got the fastest time in the first qualifying and I go into the second race from third position. Like this, it’s easier for me in the first race given the fact that I am starting from pole position. For the second race I will try to make a good start and do my best to overtake the two competitors in front in order to score as many points as possible for the overall drivers championship.”
