30/05/04:
Brno, 29th May 2004 Paul Meijer finished sixth and fourth
this afternoon in the fifth round of the European Formula Renault
2000 Championship. At the Brno (Czech Republic) circuit the only
remaining Dutch competitor drove two consistent races and added
26 points to his total in the championship.
The European Formula Renault 2000 Championship has been known for
years as the official porch to the bigger racing series, with all
races held during the LG Super Racing Weekends. In the European
Formula Renault 2000 Championship, young drivers are competing with
each other with identical material (chassis, engines, tyres, fuel).
When a rookie performs this consistent in a field of
international top talents, it shows he has great potential!
Paul
Meijer already had a good starting position with a sixth and third
position in qualifying for the two 13-lap races. After starting
well in both races, the Nikon Motorsport Team driver managed to
defend his position. Meijer just missed the podium during the second
race in which he was passed by Colin Fleming to finish fourth. Due
to his performance at this circuit known for the many altitude differences,
Paul Meijer still has a good chance to finish high in the championship
after nine races!
Paul:
Of course it is great that I scored important championship
points again. My excellent qualifying result helped me much to finish
high, but I also need to thank my team for doing such a good job.
I will try to continue this upward trend in the coming races of
the European Championship. I cannot enjoy my great result for long
now, because next Monday I will be at Zandvoort for the Pinksterraces!
