ZOLDER
After his glorious win at his comeback at Zandvoort during
the traditional Pinksterraces, the 19-year old driver of the Nikon
Motorsport Team again scored two important wins in the Benelux Formula
Renault 2000 championship at the Zolder racetrack today.
Meijer,
normally competing in the prestigious European Formula Renault 2000
championship, visited the Belgian circuit to be successful. The
entire weekend Meijer dominated the series which started by taking
pole position on Saturday. Just six laps were needed to top the
tables with 1:31.096, a time that could not be beaten by the remaining
17 competitors.
The
first race went without problems for last years Formula Renault
champion. Meijer immediately created a gap between him and the rest
of the field after the start and nine laps later he brought home
his car in first place. The second race also went according to plan.
A good start and some very fast laps during the 12-lap race resulted
in his second win of the day. Paul won the race with a ten-second
lead on Junior Strous (Mr Glow Motorsport) and Benjamini (Equipe
Verschuur).
Paul:
It is totally awesome to take two wins here. I was the last
one that was added on the entry list so I did not have an ideal
preparation for the race. I benefited from the experience and knowledge
I have from the European Championship. I would like to thank my
team NIon Motorsport for their tremendous job. The strategy and
set-up of the car was really good. I hope this upward trend will
be continued within two weeks during the LG Super Racing Weekend
races at Spa-Francorchamps!
