MAWER
FINDS MORE - PRACTICE SESSION 2 - 30/5/03
Second practice session was conducted in warmer conditions this
afternoon. Times were quicker again with Christian Jones and James
Cressey looking fast early in the session. Michael Caruso after
his gearbox problems this morning worked his way up the time sheets
to record a 0:55.4426 which was good enough for second.
But it was Barton Mawer in his '96 Dallara Spiess Opel who put in
the stunning time of 0:55.1285 on his thirteenth lap to take top
spot.
This morning's leader, Peter Hackett was pushed down to third place
despite recording a time quicker than he did in the first session.
Christian Jones also recorded a marginally faster time than he did
this morning but it was only good enough for fifth, with PSC's Alan
Gurr improving by over half a second to finish in fourth place.
James Cressey who was fourth quickest this morning was sixth in
the afternoon session with a time of 0:56.3455. Matt Fitzgerald
was another driver who was slower in the afternoon session dropping
to ninth. Kenny Habul was much happier with his performance. "I
didn't like this circuit at all this morning, but now I reckon it's
pretty good. A bit more wing helped me a lot".
In the Yokohama Trophy class Chris Coombs again topped the time
sheets, going nearly half a second quicker than he did in the first
session. Peter Rees was having fun while still coming to terms with
the Scud Racing '96 Dallara Toyota. David Borg and Bill Maddocks
were second and third, with Rees fourth.
